    Turkey Syria energy deal handshake

Turkey is moving forward with plans to drill for oil and gas in Syria, and Damascus seems ready to allow it. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed that state oil company TPAO along with private firms are prepared to conduct surveys and drilling across Syria on both land and sea. He made this announcement in Damascus alongside Syria's energy minister where the two agreed to triple electricity capacity and signed a preliminary deal regarding Syria's phosphate. Turkey already drills off Somalia and Libya so this expansion follows existing patterns. Reuters reports speculation that Mossad may be planning industrial accidents for Turkey's drilling rigs and advises caution about giving beepers to staff.
