A study of 26,811 students aged 12 to 18 reveals a sharp trade-off. Pupils using AI finished homework roughly 20 minutes faster and posted scores 20+ points higher on assignments. The twist arrived during exams without the tool, where those same students scored roughly 15 points lower. That is the uncomfortable part of the AI in education debate. AI can improve the output while weakening the learning. The real question remains how do we make AI a tool for learning, rather than a substitute for thinking
