Disney didn't move Avengers: Doomsday off its date. They built a badge instead. Here's the timeline that matters. Warner Bros. got IMAX to hand Dune: Part Three three weeks of exclusivity on those screens, and that run begins December 18, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday lands on the very same day. IMAX auditoriums are a finite resource and they carry a real share of box office, so Disney was left without the premium footprint it wanted. The answer, unveiled at CinemaCon 2026: Infinity Vision. Strip the branding and it's a quality stamp for rooms that already exist. A theater qualifies if its screen measures more than 50 feet across, and it has to run laser projection with strong contrast plus Dolby Atmos spatial audio. No new camera. No new film stock. No proprietary projection hardware. IMAX CFO Natasha Fernandes didn't mince words, calling it a pure marketing play, and the logic is easy to follow: it exists to cover the IMAX gap. Look at the specs side by side. Infinity Vision sits at 2.39:1, which is ordinary widescreen. IMAX tops out around 1.43:1 and uses its own cameras. Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve compose sequences around those IMAX cameras and that expanded frame, and what they shoot genuinely cannot be recreated in a standard format. So Infinity Vision brings no distinct visual format, no technical exclusivity, and no reason for a director to change a single setup. That's the part that gets me.
