Nike spent years looking almost impossible to compete with. It had the athletes, the shoes, the brand power, and a massive lead over most of the industry. But over time, that lead started to shrink. Competitors got stronger, Nike stopped putting out as many exciting new products, and its push to sell more directly to customers created problems with some retailers.
