    Stranger by the Lake 2013

Franck keeps going back to the same water, the same towel, the same man, and that's the part of Stranger by the Lake that won't leave me alone. The 2013 film sets him up at a secluded gay beach where the routine is swimming, sunbathing, and picking up guys in the woods. Then Michel shows up. Handsome, quiet, and apparently everything Franck's been waiting for. Immediate sex, worse attachment. At dusk, from across the lake, Franck watches Michel drown his previous lover and swim back to shore like nothing happened. No explanation, no remorse. Franck doesn't call the police. He just goes back to Michel. Michel decides when they see each other, keeps the whole thing fenced inside the beach, and treats the killing as something Franck is expected to live with. Franck lies to the inspector and keeps showing up anyway. The risk becomes part of what draws him in. The real toxicity isn't Michel refusing to let go. It's Franck refusing to accept what he already saw. On the final night, Michel is somewhere in the dark trees calling his name, and Franck answers. Alain Guiraudie built a whole trap out of obsession, danger, and moral compromise 🍿 #MovieClips
