John Bai on designing autonomous agents

    بواسطة Vojtech: SpaceXAI

Everyone still thinks design is just picking colors and fonts, but John Bai's reality at Cursor in NYC was deciding if an AI agent even needed a face. SpaceXAI pulled him in to build the Grok Bot, where the hardest unsolved UX problem involves creating a bot that operates its own computer while users sleep. There isn't a single existing framework for agents that log in, click, and work autonomously, so he added a mascot because a face actually influences user trust. He built an onboarding flow only to discard it before launch, yet kept chat functionality even after the agents outgrew it. The real twist came when he started using bots to design other bots; the tool designs itself while the human directs the outcome. Other designers are still focused on drawing screens, but Bai is designing autonomous systems rather than static interfaces, which represents a completely different type of game.
