The Kansas City school district is facing a potential loss of $70 million after being accused of secretly facilitating gender transitions for children without notifying their parents. AG Todd Blanche calls this lack of parental notification child abuse and says his office had to sue the district because it refused to comply with legal requirements. So think about that. The most fundamental thing about an individual, a child, is their name. And you have this school district claiming that, oh, FERPA doesn't cover that, that when Congress passed this law, they weren't talking about something as fundamental as a child's name. And look, we very much disagree with that. We very much think that this is exactly the type of conduct that when Congress passed this law, they expected school districts to inform parents. And by the way, the fact that you and I are talking about this, Laura, is incredible. I GET A CALL FROM MY SON'S SCHOOL IF HE HAS A HEDDICH. HE'S NOT GOING TO CALL ABOUT A NAME CHANGE? HE SEEMS FINE NOW. BUT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO CALL ABOUT A NAME CHANGE? DESIRE TO CHANGE HIS NAME? I DON'T THINK SO. THERE'S NOT A PARENT IN AMERICA, NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, THAT WOULD WANT THEIR SCHOOL TO CHANGE AND CALL THEIR CHILD BY A DIFFERENT NAME AND NOT EXPECT TO BE TOLD ABOUT THAT. THIS IS, LOOK, WE PARTNERED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION RECENTLY TO COMBAT THIS VERY, THIS VERY TREND AND REALLY PANDEMIC THAT'S HAPPENING IN DISTRICTS WHEN WE REACH OUT TO THEM ARE COMPLYING WITH THE LAW.
