Pokemon cards vs NFT collections
The point lands for me in a narrow way: nothing else in IP will ever do what Pokémon does. But an NFT collection isn't the whole franchise. It's one character. Picture the Gengar obsessive who needs every last thing ever made for that one species, and that's the shape of a single NFT project. Card collectors are reading their own hobby wrong next to NFTs, focused on one species as if it were the whole world. They're making money off the thing they love right now, so the shift stays invisible to them, though it'll be plain eventually. Somebody out there will fixate on one Pokémon and chase down every item ever released for it. JPEGs get more airtime from us than they probably should, honestly.

What Pokemon card collectors are getting so wrong here is that they are like, there's never going to be an IP like Pokemon. I'm like, yes, you're right. Because what Pokemon cards are, NFTs are at large, right? So like when you're a Pokemon card collector and you love Gengar, cool. The equivalent of that is liking like one NFT project. Do you get what I'm saying? They're just, they're so like, they're just really happy. They're right right now. And they're making money off something they love. So they just don't see it, but it's gonna be so fucking obvious, right? Like there's, there's people Keith out there that like will become obsessed with Pokemon, right? And they'll buy like everything that's ever made from Pokemon on that specific species of Pokemon. That'll just be a collection. Do you know what I'm saying? Like, like the Gengar will be a specific NFT collection and they'll want everything from it. If you're still into NFTs, you should definitely follow us because we talk about JPEGs more than we probably should.
