Unitree G1 pulls rickshaw with passenger

Watching a humanoid haul a rickshaw with someone riding in it is a strange sentence to type, but here we are. The Unitree G1, developed by researchers at Shanghai Innovation Institute, kept its footing while steering, starting, and stopping during the pull. Total mass on the hook reached 115 kg once you add the passenger and the rickshaw together, which puts the load past three times what the robot itself weighs. Simulation training is what got it there, letting the machine handle different loads without any retuning. Real-world runs with that heaviest setup topped out at 2.6 meters per second. Footage comes from The Legged AI Lab, filed under SPACE AND TECHNOLOGY.

Researchers have developed a control system that enables the Unitree G1 humanoid robot to pull a rickshaw carrying up to 115 kg of combined vehicle and passenger load. Using reinforcement learning, a robot can maintain balance, steer, accelerate, and stop while adapting to different loads without retuning. In real-world tests, it reached speeds of 2.6 m per second with the heaviest load.
