Rangers Football Club is a professional football club based in Glasgow, Scotland, founded in March 1872 by four teenage boys—Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell, and William McBeath—as they walked through West End Park (now Kelvingrove Park). The club played its first match in May 1872 against the now-defunct Callander at Fleshers' Haugh on Glasgow Green, ending 0–0. The name "Rangers" was adopted from an English rugby club. Rangers are the fourth-oldest football club in Scotland.

Rangers' home ground is Ibrox Stadium, designed by stadium architect Archibald Leitch and opened on 30 December 1929 with a 3–1 victory over Hearts. It is a Category B listed building and Scotland's third-largest football stadium. The club has always played in royal blue shirts. Rangers compete in the Scottish Premiership and were one of the eleven original members of the Scottish Football League.

Rangers have won the Scottish League title a joint-record 55 times, the Scottish Cup 34 times, and the Scottish League Cup a record 28 times, achieving the domestic treble on seven occasions. Their major European achievement is winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972, after being losing finalists in 1961 (the first British club to reach a UEFA tournament final) and 1967. The club has also been runners-up in the UEFA Cup final in 2008 and the UEFA Europa League final in 2022. By number of trophies won, Rangers are one of the most successful clubs in the world.

The club's long-standing rivalry with Celtic, known as the Old Firm, is considered one of the world's biggest football derbies. Both clubs have historically been emblematic of sectarianism in Glasgow, with Rangers and its fanbase associated with Protestantism and Irish unionism, and the club had a policy until the 1970s of refusing to sign Catholic players. Rangers have one of the largest fanbases in world football, with more than 600 supporters' clubs in 35 countries worldwide. The club holds the record for the largest travelling support in football history: an estimated 200,000 Rangers fans arrived in Manchester for the 2008 UEFA Cup final, and an estimated 100,000 fans traveled to Seville for the 2022 UEFA Europa League final.

    التاريخ

Rangers Football Club was founded in 1872 by four teenagers— Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell, and William McBeath—who decided to form a team while walking through Kelvingrove Park. The club's first match was against Callander on Glasgow Green in May 1872, ending in a 0–0 draw. Rangers played their early games at various grounds, including Burnbank and Kinning Park, before moving to Ibrox in 1887. The original Ibrox Stadium was destroyed by fire in 1902, leading to the construction of a new stadium designed by Archibald Leitch, which opened in 1929.

Rangers became a dominant force in Scottish football under manager Bill Struth, who served from 1920 to 1954 and won 18 league titles, 10 Scottish Cups, and 2 League Cups. The club's first European success came in 1972 when they won the European Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Dynamo Moscow 3–2 in Barcelona. In the 1990s, Rangers dominated domestically under managers like Walter Smith and Dick Advocaat, winning nine consecutive league titles from 1989 to 1997.

The club faced a severe financial crisis in 2012, entering administration and being liquidated. A new company, The Rangers Football Club Ltd, acquired the assets and was placed in the Scottish Football League's Third Division for the 2012–13 season. Rangers won three promotions in four years, returning to the Scottish Premiership for the 2016–17 season. In 2020–21, under manager Steven Gerrard, Rangers won their 55th league title, stopping Celtic's quest for ten in a row. The club reached the UEFA Europa League final in 2022 under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, losing to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.
